9 of the best online business tips for 2018

15 Feb 2018

No matter how great your online growth was last year, to remain competitive and keep building that momentum, you need to explore new opportunities.

Your business is not going to reach those high growth levels you are after if you remain stagnant with your marketing But it might grow faster if you find a winning new online channel. Or maybe you can optimise one of your current channels.

The most successful businesses know that by trying new things there is more chance they will uncover that winning formula that is going to skyrocket their online growth.

With this in mind I put together my best online business tips to help you make 2018 the year your business crushes it online.

Let’s get stuck in.

Try a landing page software

If you have been getting by on having the same old content on your website or landing pages, then make 2018 the year you optimise these assets.

Landing page software will allow you to test multiple variants of the same page, so you can discover what the highest converting is.

If you find the right messaging that resonates really well with your audience, this could be the secret sauce you have been looking for, for some serious online growth.

For our landing pages, we use GetResponse. Not only does it have the ability to create and optimise landing pages, but it also has a whole host of other marketing tools.

Build your email list

OK it’s 2018, I really hope you already do this but just in case, I thought I would mention it.

Your email list is one of the most valuable assets you own as a business that operates online.

Email has the power to turn leads into customers and customers into raving fans. It is also one of the lowest cost ways to connect with your audience.

If you haven’t started building your list yet, now is the time to start.

By the way, GetResponse also has a full range of list building and email marketing / automation tools. One of the many reasons why we use it.

Use Facebook ads

No doubt you have been on the receiving end of this laser targeted advertising platform. Have you tried it for your business yet?

Whether you are B2B or B2C, Facebook ads work. This is because 1. pretty much everyone uses Facebook and 2. their targeting capabilities are epic.

If you are looking for a new advertising channel, then check out this awesome article on how to get started and test it out for yourself.

Get organised

Are you using something other than excel to manage your contacts information?

If not, make 2018 the year you get organised and adopt a CRM system within your business. If you are operating your business online then this is an absolute must, especially when you start to build your thriving email list.

Here is a great selection of low-cost CRMs to choose from.

Do more competitor research

How much do you really know about your competitors?

If the answer is not much, then you need to get onto this. Your competitors can provide you with highly valuable information about what is working in your industry.

You might often think, if only we did things as good as these guys. Well there is a way that you can understand what they are doing well, they are called competitor research tools.

If you aren’t using these, I highly recommend checking out SpyFu as they have a free version which has a ton of capabilities to help you learn more about your competitors.

Try a new social media channel

If you’ve been online for a while, then you are likely using social media in one form or another. When is the last time you updated your strategy?

I am willing to bet that there are some channels out there that you have yet to test out. Businesses have been using some of the newer platforms like Instagram, SnapChat, and Pinterest to great effect.

Why not make 2018 the year you get more social?

If you need some guidance on which channel is best for your business, check out this great article from Forbes on the subject.

Write more blog posts

Content has been and will continue to be king for years to come. Creating more frequent valuable content will help your business reach a wider audience and engage your current audience more.

Plus, search engines love fresh content on your site. So, creating more will help win their favour.

Try guest blogging

A great way to get your business noticed and to pick up some links back to your website (again, search engines love this), try your hand at guest blogging.

If you have been writing regular blog posts for your audience for a while and want to take your talent to a larger audience, there are hundreds of websites ready to publish your articles.

All you have to do is reach out to them. Here is a comprehensive list of websites that accept guest blogs.

Get involved in your customers world more

Get your business some exposure and pick up a few customers in the process by getting involved in more conversations across the internet.

These conversations are happening everywhere, from forums to social media, to other business blogs. People are asking asking questions that you have the expertise to answer.

Pick a few channels to monitor and actively get involved in these conversations. If you are providing value to people, not only will you get noticed as a thought leader, but people will often be interested to work with you.
